High Performance Whatman Extraction Thimbles produced from high-quality alpha cellulose cotton linter which has excellent mechanical strength and retention. They are available in standard single and double thickness thimbles
Whatman High Performance Extraction Thimbles
- Cellulose extraction thimbles produced from high-quality alpha cellulose cotton linter and have excellent mechanical strength and retention.
- Standard single thickness thimbles have a wall thickness of approximately 1mm (10.0µm nominal particle retention).
- Double thickness thimbles have a wall thickness of approximately 2mm (6.0µm nominal particle retention) - for applications where higher retention and increased wet or dry strength, or rigidity are required.
- The high purity of the materials ensures reliable and reproducible analytical results.
- These thimbles can be used to a maximum of 500°C
Cytiva's Whatman cellulose thimbles are manufactured from high-quality alpha cellulose cotton linter for high-performance use in automated Soxhlet extractor systems. Their key features include:
- A wide variety of solid-liquid extraction studies, including lipid and pesticide analyses in food and soil samples
- Suitable for temperatures up to 120°C (248°F)
- Excellent mechanical strength and retention
- Wall thickness of standard thimbles is 1–1.5 mm to support application need
- Option for double thickness for added rigidity
Soxhlet extraction for lipid analysis
Food samples can be prepared for lipid analysis using Soxhlet extraction.
Extraction thimbles are widely used for Soxhlet techniques. After extraction, samples can be refiltered with a 0.45 μm filter to remove small particles in order to protect your analytical instrument.
