Silica Test Background:

Silicon is the second most abundant element in the earth's crust. By decomposition of natural rocks, silica is added to water. An adequate treatment of boiler feed water is necessary to avoid corrosion as well as sediment accumulation of the heating system, and thus maintain its durability and efficiency. However, a high content of silica can lead to acid-fixed deposits (so-called silicate stone) and thus restrict a safe, trouble-free operation. Targeted monitoring of silica concentration allows a more efficient operation and can prevent costly downtimes.

Silica 931033 & 931233 - In acidic solution soluble silica or silicates react with ammonium molybdate to form yellow silicomolybdic acid, which is reduced to silico-molybdenum blue with a reducing agent. (Reaction principle analogous to DIN EN ISO 16264-H57)
Silica HR 931234 - Photometric determination with molybdate to form yellow colored molybdosilicic acid (reaction principle is analogous to US standard methods 4500-Si D).
