Lovibond MD100 Ammonia Colorimeter

The Lovibond MD100 is a single parameter colorimeter for Ammonia testing in water. This is a rugged field unit ideal for a range of uses within municipal, potable waste water and industrial applications.

The rugged design makes this instrument completely portable and ideal for field use.

Technical Data

Optics LEDs, interference filters (IF) and photo sensor in transparent sample chamber. Depending on the version, up to 3 different interference filters are used. Wavelength specifications of interference filters:

All these photometers measurements using high-quality interference filters with long-life LEDs as a light source in a transparent sample chamber. The units provide accurate, reproducible results very quickly. Other major advantages include ease of operation, ergonomic design, compact dimensions and safe handling. Using an internal ring memory, the last 16 data sets (MD100, MD200) and 125 data sets (MD110) are stored automatically with date, time, parameter and measurement value. The tests are conducted using either Lovibond® tablet reagents with long-term stability, VARIO powder reagents or liquid reagents.

The benchtop photometer MD 100 from Lovibond combines high-quality interference filters with long-term stable LEDs as light sources in a high-precision optic. Colour Management In Sight

Beer-Lambert Law

A sample becomes more saturated with colour as the path length or concentration increases.
(Specifically, the relationship of the absorption of light to the properties of the material through which the light is travelling).

The diagram below shows Platinum Cobalt solution of 500 in various path length cells:

The cells used are, from left to right:

6", 5.25", 100mm, 3", 50mm, 40mm, 1", 20mm, 10mm, 1mm.

The exact same sample in a 6" cell appears vastly different to that in the 1mm cell. As can be clearly seen, the saturation of the colour increases with the path length. The same is true when the concentration of a sample increases, then so does the saturation of the colour.

This proves the importance when communicating colour: it is essential to specify the path length of the cell.
