Technical Data
Optics LEDs, interference filters (IF) and photo sensor in transparent sample chamber. Depending on the version, up to 3 different interference filters are used. Wavelength specifications of interference filters:
Comparison between Lovibond portable photometers MD 100, MD 110 and MD 200 can be seen below.
All these photometers measurements using high-quality interference filters with long-life LEDs as a light source in a transparent sample chamber. The units provide accurate, reproducible results very quickly. Other major advantages include ease of operation, ergonomic design, compact dimensions and safe handling. Using an internal ring memory, the last 16 data sets (MD100, MD200) and 125 data sets (MD110) are stored automatically with date, time, parameter and measurement value. The tests are conducted using either Lovibond® tablet reagents with long-term stability, VARIO powder reagents or liquid reagents.
The benchtop photometer MD 100 from Lovibond combines high-quality interference filters with long-term stable LEDs as light sources in a high-precision optic. This provides precise measurement results at all times - no matter where you use it. Below are all the potential combinations for MD 200, please enquire for products not available online:

Colour Management In Sight
Beer-Lambert Law
A sample becomes more saturated with colour as the path length or concentration increases. (Specifically, the relationship of the absorption of light to the properties of the material through which the light is travelling).
The diagram below shows Platinum Cobalt solution of 500 in various path length cells:
The exact same sample in a 6" cell appears vastly different to that in the 1mm cell. As can be clearly seen, the saturation of the colour increases with the path length. The same is true when the concentration of a sample increases, then so does the saturation of the colour.
This proves the importance when communicating colour: it is essential to specify the path length of the cell.
Servicing Options Available
Have you considered your servicing requirements? Much like a car, scientific instruments may need a bit of care to keep them working reliably and at their most accurate.
The Camlab Service Department have over 60 years experience in scientific instrumentation. We have a number of highly qualified internal and field-based service engineers able to perform a variety of jobs including preventative maintenance servicing and calibration.
Camlab can offer yearly service contracts which include two main types of preventative maintenance/calibration services – the back to base service and an engineer visit to your site. These options are can be offered with differing turn around times depending on the instrument type and your requirements along with loan instruments if available.
A typical preventative maintenance service includes the following:
Inspection and testing of the unit
Dismantling, cleaning and inspection of the key parts
Correction of minor defects including adjustments if necessary
Reassembly and testing
Take post adjustment / cleaning readings
Supply of calibration certificate
Return of the item to you (back to base services)

Measuring high levels of free chlorine can be problematic; Colorimeters used to test free chlorine are based on a colour change test; The DPD 1 (N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) method for residual chlorine was first introduced by Palin in 1957. Over the years it has become the most widely used method for determining free chlorine in water and wastewater. Hach introduced its first Chlorine te...
Higher range chlorine solutions are typically used for disinfecting products but standard chlorine meters often cannot measure to higher ranges. For example the Hach Pocket Colorimeter II for chlorine measures to a maximum of 2mg/L, and the MD100 Duo for Chlorine measures to a maximum of 8mg/L There are several instruments available for samples where chlorine levels are high, lets take a ...
